Drain, rinse, and fill RV water tank, repeat. Check. Transfer food from house fridge to RV fridge. Check. Pack up electronics and move to RV. Check. Eat a banana muffin. Check. Mount bike rack and install bikes. Check. Call credit card companies. Check. Install GPS on dash. Check. Vacuum basement. Check. Close garage door. Check.
Finally, we leave the house at 11:12 am. FINALLY! What seems impossible the minute before, is actually taking place a minute later.
The first stop is Janesville, WI. Illinois is behind us. Gone. The main purpose for this stop is to repair the yellow bike. It takes two hours to get this done, along with getting some red passport pictures. It could have been worse. While taking a sharp left, several cans flew out of the cupboard revealing the weakness of its latch. Fortunately there were no casualties, and we are back on the road.
Wisconsin Dells, WI is where our first scare happens. After filling the tank with gas, we pull the RV into a parking spot to enjoy some lunch. The generator begins to pulse, which makes the microwave flash on and off and leave our food cold. Yellow, while looking at the rocking generator, finds a puddle of pungent gas under the front right tire. WTF?!? He moves the RV a few feet foward because this surely did not come from our vehicle. It does. And it's pouring. From a little pipe. We call our mechanic, Joe, right away. Not too worried, he tells us that the tank is probably overfilled and simply releasing the excess gas through the air vent. After losing a good liter of gas, we go on our way.
And it's with great delight that we leave Wisconsin behind us and find ourselves looking at a bloody sunset over the Minneapolis skyline. And it's with a beautiful family, in a beautiful house, in the beautiful Uptown, in the beautiful Twin Cities that we get to spend the night.
